Changes to International Air Cargo Security

air cargo

In response to a disrupted terrorist plot in Sydney in July 2017, the Australian Government is implementing enhanced security measures to strengthen aviation security.

From 1 March 2019, all outbound international air cargo must be examined at piece-level by a Registered Cargo Agent (RACA) or originate from a Known Consignor.

How will this impact my business?

RACAs and Known Consignors

All staff involved in making, manufacturing, assembling, producing, handling or transporting outbound international air cargo must apply for a white Aviation Security Identification Card and security awareness training in order to be compliant.

 AACA

Your business will need to decide whether or not to stay an AACA, or apply to become a RACA so you can examine and clear air cargo.

If you wish to stay an AACA, you should discuss your business arrangements with the RACAs and Known Consignors you work with. The incoming security measures could lead to changes for the way you receive, store and deliver freight.
